Introduction to Metalsmithing--Make Your Own Stacking Ring
In this 3 hour group workshop for adults, lead by artist Bianca Moscatelli, you will produce at least one, but most likely 3 sterling silver or brass stacking rings to wear home. During this experience you'll learn about the tools and equipment and then how to size, form, saw, solder, shape, hammer (texturize) and polish sterling silver and brass using tools such as a caliper, jewelers saw, files, multiple hammers, a butane torch and a flex shaft, among others. No experience necessary. All tools, materials and light snacks will be provided. $150/person.
About the artist: My journey into jewelry-making began in New York City, where I started experimenting with stones and pre-made metal components as a creative outlet after work. Shortly thereafter, I was eager to dive into metalsmithing. I loved the idea of making something I could wear (without sewing) and, for me, making jewelry meant using fire and hammers! After starting classes at The School of Visual Arts, I was smitten. 15 years later, here in Los Angeles, metalsmithing is still my favorite. In addition to making jewelry, I am now able to teach the skills to others and share this incredible gift.
