Gel Print Totebag DIY

Materials:

Process:

I recommend trying the steps below on paper before working directly on your canvas tote to experiment and get a lay of the land.

1) Dispense a dollop of paint (about the size of a dime) onto gel plate (pictured in middle photo).

2) Roll paint evenly across gel plate using the brayer (pictured in right photo).

3) Place flower face down into rolled paint and lift up. You will have a textural imprint of the flower in your paint.

4) For practice prints, place paper onto gel plate, gently rub and peel off paper. When you’re ready to print your tote bag, repeat the above process, invert the gel plate onto the canvas tote bag and press evenly.

5) Remove gel plate from tote bag. Wipe plate and brayer clean with baby wipes, and repeat the process.

Endless extensions may be incorporated into this process, including the addition of stencils and texture plates to create variations in surface patterns.
